Archimedes - we're back

by marivb last modified 15/11/2007 18:03

After a lot of work, some news and no release, we're back on full speed (or almost) with Archimedes' new version.

At last Archimedes' new release is available for download - version number 0.50.0! For those who used to follow our releases, this number may seem strange. After all, the previous version was numbered 0.17.1. Well, we did this big number "upgrade" because of the migration to the Eclipse Rich Client Platform.

We've been working on this change since december 2006 with a small team - far too small for rewriting and refactoring all the features Archimedes already had. Fortunately, since march of this year our team has grown - we now have 8 programmers giving 6 hours a week to the project, as when we started. They are learning about RCP and Archimedes' architecture, and we decided it was time for a new release.

If you had already seen or used Archimedes, you'll miss quite a few things in this version. Selecting by intersection (from right to left), opening and saving drawings and layer management just to name a few (see the full list). The fact is that the platform migration is not done yet, but we chose to move forward: now we're developing a release that mixes new, unseen funcionality with migrated features. Just wait and you'll see it!
